Is Escambia County Jail View open now?
Yes, in normal operation. Escambia County Jail View is an online service, not an office, so it has no opening hours: it’s available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including weekends and holidays, and it’s free. If it doesn’t load right now, check the live status box at the top of this page.
What happened to Escambia County Jail View?
People who searched “ECSO Jail View” for years are usually surprised by this history, which explains most broken links:
- Before October 1, 2013, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO) ran the jail, so the inmate lookup was known as the Sheriff’s or “ECSO” Jail View.
- On October 1, 2013, the Board of County Commissioners took over jail operations and placed them under the new Escambia County Corrections Department. The lookup moved with the jail to the county’s systems.
- Today, the official tool lives at inmatelookup.myescambia.com/smartwebclient/jail.aspx. The “Inmate Lookup” link on the county’s corrections pages redirects there.
So if an old bookmark, news article or third-party site points to a Sheriff’s page, a raw IP address, or a different path, it may fail even though the real Jail View is working. Update your bookmark to the address above. The software itself (SmartWEB “JAIL View”) is still the same, so the page looks and works the way you remember.
Jail View won’t load for me, but the status is green
The problem is likely on your side. Try these in order:
- Refresh once. The portal sometimes times out on the first request.
- Use the full, current address:
https://inmatelookup.myescambia.com/smartwebclient/jail.aspx. - Try another browser or a private/incognito window. Blocked cookies or cached files can break the search form.
- Pause VPNs and ad blockers for the site.
- Switch networks — mobile data instead of Wi-Fi, or the other way around. Workplace and school networks sometimes filter government sites.
- “Please fill in at least one search criteria” means the form was submitted empty. Type a last name or a date range.
- The page loads but finds nobody. That’s a search issue, not an outage. See how to find someone.

Why does the portal go down?
The official Jail View runs on the county’s own servers using SmartWEB public-access software. Outages are usually short and caused by:
- scheduled maintenance, often overnight or on weekends,
- network problems between the county and the internet,
- heavy traffic after a high-profile arrest makes the news,
- updates to the jail management system.
We don’t control the official portal. We monitor it so you can tell whether a problem is on your end or theirs.
Frequently asked questions
Why is Escambia County Jail View not working?
Most often it’s a short outage or slow response on the county’s server, or a browser problem on your device. If our status check shows it online, clear your cache, try another browser or switch networks. If it shows down, wait 15–30 minutes or call the jail at 850-436-9830.
Is Escambia County Jail View open 24 hours?
Yes. The official Jail View is an online service available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays. The jail itself also operates around the clock, and the Detention Division phone line (850-436-9830) can confirm whether someone is in custody when the website isn’t working.
What happened to ECSO Jail View?
ECSO Jail View was the Sheriff’s Office name for the inmate lookup when the Sheriff ran the jail. Since October 1, 2013, the jail has been run by Escambia County Corrections, and the same tool now lives at inmatelookup.myescambia.com. Old ECSO links may fail, but the current official Jail View still works.
Is there another official site with the same information?
No separate official mirror exists. The county’s corrections pages on myescambia.com link and redirect to the same Jail View. During an outage, the official alternative is to call the Detention Division at 850-436-9830. Once charges are filed, the Clerk of Court’s case search also shows the case.
