Why it matters which agency arrested someone
- Reports and body camera footage are requested from the arresting agency, not from the jail. How to request arrest records
- Property and vehicles — impounded cars and evidence are handled by the arresting agency.
- Warrant questions — the Sheriff’s Office serves most warrants in the county. Warrant search
- Complaints or compliments about an arrest go to the arresting agency. Complaints about conditions in the jail go to Escambia County Corrections, which has its own complaint form.
Sheriff vs. Corrections: who does what
Since October 1, 2013, the jail has been run by the Escambia County Board of County Commissioners through the Department of Corrections — not by the Sheriff. In practice:
- The Sheriff’s Office patrols, investigates, arrests, serves warrants and keeps arrest records.
- Escambia County Corrections books, houses and releases inmates, runs the Jail View portal, visitation, inmate accounts and the Work Annex.
That’s why jail questions (bond posting, visits, money, mail, property) go to Corrections at 850-436-9830, while questions about an arrest or report go to the arresting agency.
Frequently asked questions
Who runs the Escambia County jail?
Escambia County Corrections, under the Board of County Commissioners, has run the jail since October 1, 2013. Before that, the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office ran it. The Sheriff’s Office still makes most arrests in the county, serves warrants and keeps arrest reports, but bookings, visits and inmate accounts belong to Corrections.
How do I get a police report for an arrest on Jail View?
Find the report number and agency in the charges table, for example ECSO26OFF000000 (Escambia County Sheriff’s Office). Then request the report from that agency’s public records unit. Florida’s public records law gives anyone the right to ask. Expect redactions for active investigations and certain personal information.
Does Pensacola Police have its own jail?
No. The Pensacola Police Department books its arrests into the Escambia County jail at 3080 N. Pace Blvd., the same facility the Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol use. Those bookings appear on Escambia County Jail View with PENSACOLA POLICE DEPARTMENT listed next to the report number.
