Search Inmates
How does this inmate search work?
The form above searches the county’s own system. When you press Search the official Jail View, our server sends your name search to the official Escambia County inmate lookup and shows the records it returns on this page, with links that explain each charge. If the county portal is slow or down, the form switches to step-by-step instructions for searching the official site yourself, with copy buttons and dates already converted to the MM/DD/YYYY format the county uses.
- Nothing is stored. We don’t keep a database of inmates or a log of names searched. Identical searches are cached for up to 10 minutes to go easy on the county server, then deleted.
- The official record is the only record. Results come straight from Escambia County Corrections at the moment you search. Always confirm anything important on the official site or with the jail.
- Booking number or date range? The official tool searches by name and by booking or release dates. It has no booking-number box, so search by name and look for the booking number in the results.
- If the portal is slow or down, check the live status or call the jail at 850-436-9830.

Search tips that actually find people
Most “not found” searches are a name problem, not a missing record. Try these in order:
- Last name only. Leave first name blank, set Search For to Both Current And Released, and scan the list.
- Legal name, not nickname. “Bill” may be booked as “William”, “Tony” as “Anthony”, “Liz” as “Elizabeth”.
- Name changes. Try maiden and married surnames, and each part of a hyphenated or two-word surname (for example “DE LA CRUZ” might be entered as “DELACRUZ”).
- Suffixes. “JR”, “SR” or “III” are sometimes part of the last-name field. Try the last name with and without the suffix.
- Spelling. The name is entered by booking staff from ID or from what the person said. One-letter differences (e.g. “MCDONALD” vs “MACDONALD”) are common.
- Search by booking date. On the official portal you can leave the name blank and enter a Begin Booking Date and End Booking Date to list everyone booked in that window, then look for the person manually.
Timing matters. A person who was arrested an hour ago is usually still being booked — fingerprints, photos, property inventory, medical screening and warrant checks all happen before the record is published. On a busy weekend night this can take several hours. See what happens after an arrest.
Searching current vs. released inmates
The Search For menu changes which records are included:
| Option | Shows | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Current Inmates Only | People in custody right now | You want to confirm someone is still in jail |
| Released Inmates Only | People who have left custody | You want to confirm a release, or find a past booking |
| Both Current And Released | Everything that matches | You’re not sure, or the first search came back empty |
Released records typically show a release date. To confirm how and when someone got out, see Check if someone was released.
What you can learn from a search result
Each result shows the same blocks the official site uses:
- Name, race and sex in the navy header bar.
- Status (In Jail or released), Booking No and MniNo, Booking Date, and sometimes Estimated Release.
- Bond Amount — read our bond guide before assuming “$0.00” means free release.
- Holds — other agencies waiting for the person, such as a neighboring county or ICE. Holds explained.
- Charges — statute, case/report number, charge name, degree, level and bond for each charge. Use degree & level codes to decode letters like “T F” or “F M”.
Every charge on a record has a plain-English guide in our charges section, and the court date lookup shows how to follow the case once it’s filed.
When Escambia County isn’t the right place to look
If the person isn’t found here, they may be in custody somewhere else:
- Santa Rosa County (Milton, Pace, Navarre, Gulf Breeze) runs its own jail and its own “Jail View”. → Santa Rosa County Jail View
- Escambia County, Alabama (Brewton, Atmore, Flomaton) is a different county with the same name. → Escambia County, AL jail roster
- State prison (sentenced to more than a year) — Florida Department of Corrections. Federal custody — Bureau of Prisons. Immigration detention — ICE locator. → Florida, federal & ICE inmate search
Who uses the Escambia County inmate search?
- Families and friends checking whether someone was arrested, what the charges are and whether bond has been set.
- Bail bond agents confirming bond amounts and booking numbers.
- Attorneys verifying custody status and case numbers before a first appearance.
- Employers and landlords should not use it to make decisions. Booking data is not a background check, and using it that way can violate the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act. Arrest is not conviction.
Frequently asked questions
How do I look up an inmate in Escambia County?
Open the official Escambia County Jail View, type the person’s last name, set Search For to Both Current And Released, and press Submit. Add a first name if the last name is common. Each result shows custody status, booking number, bond and charges. Our search box opens the portal and tells you what to type.
Can I search Escambia County inmates by booking number?
Not directly. The official portal searches by name and by booking or release dates, and it has no booking-number box. Search the person’s last name and match the booking number in the results using Find on page, or call the jail at 850-436-9830 with the booking number ready.
Is there an Escambia County jail roster or inmate list?
Yes, in effect. Choosing Current Inmates Only with a broad search, or opening the default 24-hour page, lists people in custody on the official Escambia County Jail View. There isn’t a separate downloadable roster. The county’s corrections department is responsible for more than 1,300 inmates across its facilities.
How far back does the Escambia County inmate search go?
Searching with Both Current And Released returns past bookings as far back as the county keeps them online, so older stays often still appear. For older arrest history or official copies, request records from the arresting agency, such as the Sheriff’s Office, or check the Clerk of Court’s case search.
Is the Escambia County inmate search free?
Yes. The official Escambia County Jail View is completely free and needs no account, and so is this guide. You never have to pay to see jail information in Escambia County. Be careful with websites that charge for “inmate reports” — they usually repackage the same free public information.
