How to Find Out If Someone Is in Jail in Escambia County, Florida

To find out if someone is in jail in Escambia County, Florida, search their last name on the official Escambia County Jail View with Search For set to Both Current And Released. If they aren’t listed, wait a few hours — booking takes time — and then check neighboring jails (Santa Rosa County, FL and Escambia County, AL), state prison (FDC), federal custody (BOP) and ICE. Or call the jail at 850-436-9830.

Search Inmates

The 7-step checklist

1. Search Jail View the right way

Use the last name only first, and choose Both Current And Released. Scan the whole list. If the name is common, add a first name. Try legal names, maiden or married names, and variations of hyphenated or two-part surnames. More search tips.

2. Check the “Booked Last 24 Hours” list

The official portal’s default page lists everyone booked in the last 24 hours. Use your browser’s Find on page to look for the name. Details: Last 24 hours bookings.

3. Give booking time to finish

An arrest isn’t posted until booking is complete — search, fingerprints, photos, property inventory, medical screening and warrant checks. That can take several hours, longer overnight and on weekends. Try again later before assuming the person isn’t there.

4. Think about where the arrest happened

The jail a person goes to depends on where they were arrested, not where they live:

Arrest location Likely jail Where to look
Pensacola, Cantonment, Molino, Century, Perdido Key, Pensacola Beach Escambia County, FL This site / official Jail View
Milton, Pace, Navarre, Gulf Breeze, Jay Santa Rosa County, FL Santa Rosa Jail View
Brewton, Atmore, Flomaton, East Brewton Escambia County, AL Escambia County, AL roster
Fort Walton Beach, Crestview, Destin Okaloosa County, FL Okaloosa County Jail inmate search
Mobile, AL area Mobile County, AL (Metro Jail) Mobile County Sheriff’s inmate search

5. Check state, federal and immigration custody

  • Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) — people sentenced to state prison or under state supervision.
  • Federal Bureau of Prisons — federal inmates. Federal pretrial detainees in the Pensacola area may be held in county jails under agreements with the U.S. Marshals.
  • ICE Online Detainee Locator — immigration detention. An “ICE” hold on Jail View means ICE has asked the jail to hold the person.

All three are covered in Florida, federal & ICE inmate search.

6. Check for a warrant or court case

If you suspect a warrant rather than an arrest, see Escambia County warrant search. If the person was arrested and released, the case will show up in the Clerk of Court’s court records search once it’s filed.

7. Call

  • Escambia County Jail (Detention): 850-436-9830
  • Work Annex (Cantonment): 850-937-2100
  • Escambia County Sheriff’s Office (non-emergency): listed on the Sheriff’s website

Jail staff can usually confirm custody and bond information by phone, but they won’t discuss medical or confidential details.

Signs the person may have been released already

  • Bond was preset for the charge and a family member or bondsman posted it quickly.
  • It was a minor misdemeanor and the person was released on a notice to appear instead of being booked.
  • A judge released them at first appearance on their own recognizance or to Pretrial Release.

When to be worried and who to call

If you can’t find someone and you believe they’re missing (not arrested), contact local law enforcement to report a missing person. The jail and Jail View only cover people in custody. Hospitals can’t confirm patients without consent, but police can make welfare checks.

Frequently asked questions

How long after an arrest does someone show up on Jail View?

Usually within a few hours of arriving at the jail, once booking is complete: search, fingerprints, photo, property inventory, medical screening and data entry. On busy nights and weekends it can take longer, and late-night arrests often appear the next morning. Check again later before assuming the person isn’t there.

Can the jail tell me over the phone if someone is there?

Yes. Staff at the Escambia County Jail Detention Division (850-436-9830) can generally confirm whether a person is in custody and share basic booking and bond information. Have the full legal name and date of birth ready. They can’t share medical details without the inmate’s written consent.

What if I can’t find someone in any jail?

Check the county where the arrest happened, state prison, federal custody and ICE detention. If you still can’t find the person and believe they’re missing rather than arrested, contact local law enforcement to request a welfare check or report a missing person. Jail lookups only cover people who are in custody.
